FIRST DAY production of THE LAST of the 250 Elsinores! #97 off the assembly line! About this bike:*Barn find, sitting for years.*Has spark.*Has GREAT compression.*Mostly original/complete.What I found:*Clutch was inop - The clutch outer was installed 1 notch off, didn't seat - fixed.*Drained tank & cleaned carb - no damage whatsoever.*Just fired up ONE KICK!I surmise that somebody gave up after their failed attempt to service the clutch.As it stands now:*Choke plunger doesn't stay up/on - I ordered one.*I don't ride - have broken back, plantars fascitis, & no mx boots.*I didn't plan on kicking it, but it seemed easier with the left kicker, standing beside the bike like back in the day. (See my TOTALLY fresh '01 pic? STILL hasn't been kicked the 1st time, bring some extra thou$ & take IT, too!) *IF you want to hear it run, bring your MX boots - it HAS GREAT compression - I'm not kicking ANYTHING right now!*Since becoming disabled out of my Honda shop, I rehab old CRs & CRFs. THIS one IS historic & NEEDS to be restored & displayed.----------I was career Honda tech & had a brand new one in '81. It was new technology & people didn't understand the rising rate rear linkage - I did. My rider ran 1st & 2nd in 250A on it. Not far from #Redbud.-----------About the 1981 CR250 design: The 1981 CR250 brought exotic works technology to the production line. It was the first-EVER, liquid cooled, 250cc production bike. Using HRC works technology, the 1981 CR250 shared the works bike’s long-stroke engine design, center port exhaust, semi-double-cradle frame and Pro-Link single-shock rising rate linkage suspension. The Pro-Link setup proved to be a precursor for ALL the linkage designs in use today. The geometry is the same as the factory works HRC RC250, almost exactly the same as used on the CR450R. The only difference between the CR250 and CR450 frames is the extra bracketry for the radiator on the CR250. The magnesium center cases were designed so they would work for the 250 AND the 450. The clutch is the same for both engines.On Aug-03-23 at 12:31:46 PDT, seller added the following information:Choke plunger has arrived & installed.NO, I do not have the original front number plate, those were THE FIRST thing tossed in the trash back then.To be 100% CLEAR: These motorcycles are high performance racing machines & fast enough to wheelie in every gear, capable of causing massive injuries. They had no warranties even when brand new. I offer no warranties. This is a so called 'barn find', having been unused & in storage for a decade, possibly two. Even when brand new they required maintenance on a regular basis. This one has unknown history & I've disclosed all I know about it. I have not restored it. I make no claims that it's ready to tear up the dirt - if I was keeping it, I would take it apart to the last bolt & build it back up with all wear items inspected, repaired, or replaced. I don't have time & decided to let someone else put THEIR time into it, they can reap the rewards. You may have noticed - there are no other '81s on eBay. Nor Facebook marketplace. They are VERY hard to find. Good luck in this auction!
